Meet the Board

Julie Holland
President

Julie moved to Seattle and the South Lake Union neighborhood from Los Angeles in 2017. Seattle has quickly become home. Julie earned a Bachelor of Biochemistry and MBA in Finance, which led to a business career spanning technical, marketing, and executive management positions. Her experience has largely been with early-stage companies introducing new products using new technology in fields such as medical instrumentation and software. There are two exceptions. She was responsible for the successful fund raising and development of a business incubator at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona that initiated the development of its successful 56-acre technology park. The last five years of her career were spent at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center launching a Technology Transfer Program.

Geoff Eseltine

Geoff serves as the Director of Outdoor Leadership for the YMCA of Greater Seattle. Through his work he engages youth, families, and adults in environmental education and outdoor adventures that build leadership skills, support social-emotional learning, and cultivate community. Geoff grew up in Vermont and has been based in the Cascade neighborhood of Seattle since 2012. As the South Lake Union area has changed over the last ten years he has been an avid supporter of efforts to activate and connect people to parks, gardens, and outdoor spaces. In addition to his work with the Y, he has served in an advisory role for Woodland Park Zoo’s Seattle Youth Climate Action Now, Nature Consortium, and the University of Washington Youth Environmental Education Network.

After graduating from the University of Puget Sound, Rebecca served as Congressman Adam Smith’s Political Director and Communications Director where she developed and maintained critical relationships with local media, business associations, grassroots advocacy organizations, and not-for profit organizations. She also designed and managed the translation of Congressman Smith's website into multiple languages to reflect the diversity of the 9th Congressional District and enhance accessibility for constituents.  Rebecca now works for Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center where she supports the Vice President of Government and Community Relations by serving as a liaison to community groups, civic organizations, and local elected officials to promote the Fred Hutch mission of eliminating cancer and related diseases as causes of human suffering and death. In her personal life, she is pursuing a Master of Health Administration from George Washington University, is a member of the Board of Directors for HomeSight, as well as a co-chair of the Seattle Women’s Commission.

Ross Leventhal

Ross Leventhal

Ross is a principal at NBBJ where he has practiced for over 20 years. He was a young designer on the team that did feasibility studies on multiple sites around Seattle, which resulted in the move of the 350 person office from Pioneer square to South Lake union in 2006 to a new NBBJ designed office building, developed by Vulcan. He has been deeply involved in many projects in the neighborhood during the last decade of rapid change to the neighborhood. His goal for joining the board is to be active in helping to continue to shape and improve the neighborhood through an additional path, beyond projects. Beyond his busy life as an architect, Ross loves all that the greater Seattle environment provides for recreation. He has been an avid bike commuter since 1998. Weekends are spent in the mountains riding his mountain bike or climbing mountains for the pleasure of skiing them.

Renee Notkin

Renee Notkin

Renée Notkin is passionate about creating community and connection.  As co-founding pastor of Union Presbyterian Church, based in South Lake Union, she seeks the welfare of the community through building relationships and establishing partnerships with local non-profits such as Immanuel Community Services, Compass Housing Alliance, Catholic Community Services, LiHi and Lowell Elementary School.

Since 2009, Renée has worked alongside her husband, James B, Union Church, and a dynamic staff, to create a third place for South Lake Union through Kakáo Café and the 415 Events Space (415 Commons). Through this space, in the center of SLU, she has been engaged in developing educational support programs for youth, a women’s shelter, and weekly meal preparation for those with less access to nutritious food. She delights in the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world who live and work in SLU.   As a native Washingtonian, Renée finds joy in hiking, biking, and a good cup of coffee.
